HOW MUCH ALCOHOL SHOULD I PURCHASE IF I BRING MY OWN? This is a common and important question that can be easily answered with a mathematical formula based on what we observed over the years we have been hosting weddings. We have found many wedding parties purchase too much.
If you want to include alcohol for your reception, for 100 guests at a four (4) hour reception, figure on and average of three (3) drinks per guest. Next, estimate what percentage of your guests will be drinking beer vs. wine. For the purpose of this calculation let’s assume 50 – 50, but that relationship changes from group to group. 50 guests drinking beer would consume about 150 cans or bottles.
If you bring a keg, one full size keg should be enough to serve 150 drinks. Next, assume you get about 4 glasses of wine from a bottle. 50 guests drinking wine at 3 drinks per guest would be 150 drinks, divided by 4 equals about 38 bottles of wine. Obviously, this formula needs to be modified according to your guest list and the anticipated length of your reception.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING? You need to bring everything that goes in the glass. That includes any mixer, liquor, swizzles, ice and any embellishments.
